Earlier this year, noted musical act Titus Andronicus [hereafter +@] dazzled audiences and scrambled expectations with their first “acoustic” tour of North America. In September, they will embark on their first “acoustic” tour of the UK and Ireland, bringing fans across the pond a show that promises to reach even greater heights of intimacy and vulnerability.
Today, it is the pleasure of +@ to announce the descriptively-titled “American Rock Band Tour,” (commencing October the 12th in New Haven, CT) which will revive the dormant “rock band” format in the eastern United States for the group’s first tour as a four-piece ensemble (drum set and all) since 2016 and offer the first “rock band” shows in support of this year’s
groundbreaking Merge Records studio LP, A Productive Cough.
On the “American Rock Band Tour,” +@ singer-songwriter Patrick Stickles will be joined by longtime guitarist Liam Betson and the indomitable rhythm section of R.J. Gordon (bass) and Chris Wilson (drums). These four kings will leave a trail of musical riches from the Mississippi to the Atlantic which rock bands of the future are sure to follow like so many breadcrumbs into a bright and fruitful future for the genre and the world.
On select dates, +@ will be joined by perennial rock inspiration Ted Leo, who himself will be embarking upon his first extensive run of “solo” performances since the release of 2017’s acclaimed album The Hanged Man. “I have had the joy of seeing Ted Leo perform dozens of times,” commented Stickles, “both solo and with the support of the Pharmacists, and his flexibility as a performer and consistency as a showman remains an aspirational high-water mark for such guitar-slinging troubadours as myself.”
To celebrate this auspicious announcement, +@ is now sharing the latest installation in their ongoing mixtape series, “Titus Andronicus Mixtape Volume III : A Reductive Scoff,” which collects demos and outtakes from the making of A Productive Cough, peeling back the curtain to demystify the creative process with the courageous transparency for which +@ has become beloved.
